Terms of Service

Kumizine is a browser-based tool that helps you plan the imposition of a printed publication, working out page order, spreads, and signatures for a given binding style, and generates a ready-to-place InDesign/Affinity template and assembly instructions from your settings.

You need an account to save settings and access paid features. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that happens under your account. Let us know right away if you suspect unauthorised use.

Kumizine offers a free Hobby plan and paid Studio and Pro plans, billed on a recurring basis through Stripe. By subscribing to a paid plan, you authorise us to charge your payment method for the applicable fees until you cancel.

You can cancel a subscription at any time from your account settings; your plan stays active through the end of the current billing period, and we don't provide refunds for partial periods except where required by law.

The free Hobby plan includes one project download. A project download unlocks one saved project, rather than one individual file transfer. Once that project is unlocked, you may continue editing it and download its updated template and assembly guide as many times as you need. It does not unlock a second saved project. Additional project downloads may be earned through eligible Kumizine programmes or purchased separately.

Free Hobby members may invite another person using their personal referral link. When the invited person successfully creates a new Kumizine account, and both people are on the free Hobby tier at the time of the reward, each person receives one additional project download credit. A visit or link click alone does not qualify.

• Referral links are personal and must not be used to refer yourself, create duplicate accounts or automate sign-ups.
• A referred account may be connected to one referrer only, and each successful referral can be rewarded once.
• We may reject, limit, withhold or revoke rewards where activity appears fraudulent, automated, misleading or otherwise abusive.
• Referral rewards have no cash value, cannot be transferred and may be changed or withdrawn if the programme changes or ends. Credits already used on an eligible project remain subject to these terms.

Kumi-nity is a supportive public space for sharing zines. You keep copyright in your work and choose the stated download permission, but you grant Kumizine permission to host, display and promote an approved submission within the service.

• Only upload work that you created or have permission to publish, including every image, word, typeface and other included asset.
• Do not upload unlawful, threatening, hateful, harassing, exploitative, deceptive or privacy-invading material, or content that infringes another person's rights.
• Use accurate titles, descriptions, attribution and download permissions. Do not present another person's work as your own.
• Community images must use an accepted JPG, PNG or WebP format and meet the displayed file limit. Downloadable publications must use an accepted PDF format and meet the displayed file limit.
• We review submissions and may request changes, reject or remove material, restrict community access, suspend an account or cancel an account where necessary to protect Kumi-nity, its members or Kumizine.
• Approval, featuring or continued availability is not guaranteed. If you believe material infringes your rights or creates a safety concern, contact Kumizine so it can be reviewed.

You retain full ownership of the pages, artwork, and designs you work with in Kumizine. We claim no ownership over your content, and, because that content is processed in your browser rather than uploaded to our servers, we generally never have a copy of it to begin with. You're responsible for making sure you have the rights to any content you create or import with the service.

You agree not to:

• Use Kumizine for any unlawful purpose, or to infringe someone else's intellectual property or other rights.
• Attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the service or its infrastructure.
• Resell or sublicense the service without our written permission.

The Kumizine software, website, branding, and the templates we generate (excluding your own content) are owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual property law. These terms don't grant you any rights to our trademarks or brand assets beyond what's needed to use the service normally.

Spine-thickness estimates, grain-direction recommendations, binding-margin guidance, and similar advisories are planning estimates based on standard print-industry rules of thumb. They're provided to help you plan, not as a substitute for a real quote or specification review from your printer or bindery.

Kumizine is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including, to the extent permitted by law, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't guarantee the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Kumizine and its team won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of the service, including any printing costs or losses resulting from an imposition or manufacturing estimate. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

You can stop using Kumizine and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, with notice where practical.

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you directly. Continuing to use Kumizine after a change means you accept the updated terms.
