Adobe InDesign zine templates
Start your InDesign zine with the print structure already solved
Choose the finished size, page count and binding in Kumizine, then download an editable IDML template for Adobe InDesign. The printer spreads, page order and production notes are ready before you begin the final layout.
Editable IDML
Open the generated document in InDesign and keep working with real frames, layers and links.
Correct printer spreads
Page order follows the chosen binding rather than ordinary reading order.
Assembly included
The template and its guide describe the same printing, folding and binding workflow.
IDML rather than a locked design
IDML is Adobe InDesign Markup Language. It describes an editable InDesign document and is useful for moving structured layouts between supported versions and compatible publishing applications.
Kumizine uses IDML so the output remains a working production file. You can replace images, edit text, adjust styles and run InDesign preflight before exporting the final PDF.
A practical InDesign workflow
Create the project in Kumizine and confirm the page count, sheet size, finished trim and binding. Download the generated file, open it in InDesign and review the document links, fonts, swatches and page frames.
Place or relink final artwork, inspect effective image resolution, check bleed and marks, then export the PDF preset requested by your printer. Print one complete proof before producing the edition.
- Open the IDML and save a working INDD copy
- Check missing fonts and linked files
- Keep critical content inside the safe area
- Confirm spreads, bleed and trim marks
- Use the printer's requested PDF standard
- Fold and bind one proof before the full run
Reader pages and printer spreads
A zine is normally designed as pages that read from front to back, but a folded booklet is printed as paired pages on larger sheets. Those printer spreads can look wrong until the sheet is folded.
Kumizine prepares that imposed order for the selected binding. InDesign remains the place for typography, artwork, colour, links and final preflight.
Common questions
Can InDesign open Kumizine files?
Yes. Kumizine generates IDML, Adobe's editable interchange format for InDesign documents.
Should I use Print Booklet instead?
Print Booklet can suit some finished InDesign documents. Kumizine is useful when you want the imposed structure, binding decisions and assembly plan prepared before final design.
Does the template also work in Affinity?
The same IDML can be opened in supported versions of Affinity Publisher, although application-specific features and text flow should always be checked after opening.
