How to reconnect photo-zine images in Affinity Publisher

reconnect changes the file inside an existing picture frame. The frame, page assignment and approved sequence stay in place, which is why lightweight previews can safely carry a photo zine through its planning stage.

In plain English

Open Window → Resource Manager, select the linked previews, choose Replace, locate the corresponding full-size file and let Affinity search the same folder for matching resources. Check every link, crop and effective resolution before export.

Prepare a clean originals folder

Export final images with stable filenames that correspond to the preview names. Keep the selected files together for the reconnect session.

Avoid renaming previews and originals independently after sequencing is approved.

Open Resource Manager

In Affinity Publisher choose Window → Resource Manager and review the list of placed preview resources.

Select a resource, choose Replace and navigate to the matching full-size image.

Preserve frames and inspect crops

Replacing a resource keeps its frame and placement, but differences in pixel dimensions or aspect ratio can affect the visible crop.

Review every spread, especially full-bleed images and photographs crossing the gutter.

final file check before export

Confirm there are no missing resources and effective resolution meets the printer’s requirement.

Check colour profile, bleed, black settings and export preset with the printer before creating the final PDF.
